About Lorem2

Lorem2 came into existence in 2008 out of a desire need to have a far nicer, better place in which to get my Lorem copy each day. The entire website was designed, coded and launched in about a six weeks. To my surprise, within a couple of months, Lorem 2 had become the go-to lorem site on the web. At one point, it ranked number 2 or 3 on Google.

Most importantly, the site is built to take on typefaces of various foundries and font services. Featuring and promoting beautiful, groundbreaking and important typefaces, Lorem2 not only becomes a useful tool but a typographic platform.

This website was designed by Manoverboard, a purpose-driven design studio providing identity, web development and content strategy to change-seeking organizations. Manoverboard merged with Mangrove Web in 2023.

Lorem 2 previously was masterfully designed and coded by Jordan Wooster with guidance and assistance from Dan Lamb and Jory Kruspe. The original Lorem2 site was coded by the late Michael Barrish.

Lorem lore

Although designers often refer to text produced with lorem ipsum content “greeking”, the words themselves are made of unreadable Latin. Since the 1500s, dummy text has been used by printers, typographers and writers to see how letters and words might look on a page. And the text isn’t purely random — it stems from a Latin text by Cicero from approximately the first century BCE.

Set to a typeface, words take on very different looks on a page, a website or an app. To this day, filler text like lorem ipsum helps designers, typographers and artists make decisions about specific typefaces, font sizes and weights, as well as page colour and placement of text.

In no way is Lorem2 the only lorem website or lorem tool. It may be the best out there (we are biased) but there are many others. Here is a list of a few other lorem-related sites and tools:
