About Lorem2

Lorem2 came into existence in 2008 out of a desire to have a far lovelier place in which to get my download Lorem copy each day. There are a lot of Lorem Ipsum websites but I wanted ease and joy.

The first iteration was designed, coded and launched in about a six weeks. To my surprise, within a few months, Lorem2 had become the go-to Lorem Ipsum site on the web. At one point, it ranked number two in search results!

This website was designed by me, Andrew Boardman. I'm a designer living in Montréal, Québec. It was hand coded by Gilles Vauvarin of Pixenjoy. This is a truly modern school static site — it is made entirely of HTML, CSS and JavaScript; there are no content management systems and no databases.

The typefaces used are Grilli Type's GT Alpina and iA Writer's Monospace Regular.

Data structure files are added so that developers can download Lorem in various common file formats, including CSV, JSON, SQL, XML, YAML and HTML.

The site is built to conform to WCAG2.2 Level AA web accessibility guidelines and it receives an A from Website Carbon Calculator, making it lighter than 92% of all web pages globally. The French translation is by Brithney Bischoff.

The site does not use cookies and is compliant with GDPR, CCPA, ePrivacy and PECR. It uses Fathom Analytics; the dashboard is public.

The previous iteration was designed and coded by Jordan Wooster with direction from Daniel Lamb and Jory Kruspe. The original Lorem2 site was designed by me and coded by the late Michael Barrish. Thank you for visiting.

Lorem Lore

Although designers sometimes refer to Lorem Ipsum content as "greeking", the words themselves are actually made of unreadable Latin.

Since the 1500s, so-called dummy text has been used by printers, typographers and writers to see how letters and words might look on a page. But the text isn't purely random — it stems from a Latin work by Cicero from approximately the first century BCE.

In the 1960s, Lorem Ipsum emerged in design culture via Letraset sheets, and later found its way into desktop publishing software like good old Aldus PageMaker. What began as classical prose became a nearly invisible yet universal design standard for so many designers.

Set in type, words take on very different appearnaces on a page, a website or an app. To this day, Lorem Ipsum helps designers, typographers, engineers and artists make decisions about specific typefaces, font sizes and weights, as well as overall page colour and placement of text.

Lorem Ipsum allows us to design confidently and decisively.

Lorem Ipsum is powerful tool when wielded carefully and thoughtfully. In addition to this website, you can find Lorem Ipsum almost everywhere, including in popular word processing tools, design applications, and coding platforms.

There is an argument to be made that graphic designers should abandon Lorem Ipsum and only use "real" copy in our work. But sometimes that copy is not at hand. Lorem plays an important role in visual ideation, in helping readers imagine what is possible.

Lorem will be with us for as long as words are with us.
